Veda Vyasa and Ganapati

This painting from Angkor Wat is of Vedavyasa dictating the epic Mahabharata to the Elemental God Ganapati, Deity of Knowledge and Dispenser of Obstacles. In fact, Veda vyasa is none else, but Shree Krishna Dvaipayana. Lord Ganapati is the clay doll created by Parvati, Mother Earth, representing the living beings, jiva rashi. She the Devi breathed life unto the jiva without Herself breathing! Ganapati is also the deity of muladhara prajnya, a level of understanding and awareness at the bare minimum survival with food, drinks, sleep and recreation and reproduction. There is nothing much that is attained at this level. However, Shree Krishna dvaipayana Veda vyasa can lead the jiva upto the highest level of sahasrar, brahmn level!
Symbolically, Arjuna is led by Shree Krishna from his lowest level of existence at muladhara prajnya level- one of attachment, desire, anger, etc. to a higher and higher levels, from an individualized consciousness- full of dualities, qualities, the blemishes, stains of the pure soul, step by step to Kaivalya. Arjuna is given instructions in sankhya yoga and karma yoga- all knowledge of karma, and then bhakti yoga, jnyan yoga, dhyana yoga, and finally samadhi (sanyasa) yoga, and such other different levels of existence. Finally, it is through total surrender, sharanagatim, to the higher will, that one can cross the ocean of sansar, the bhavasagara.
Thus, the 'gitopadesha' comes here as an instruction in mukti and, is thus, a muktikopanishad. It is brahm-jnyan. It reveals the true knowledge of the Self, Atmajnyan.
