This verse
explains the Creator and His attributes according
to Rk veda. The probable mode of creation is also
presented here as available from the yajurveda, Shvetashvatara upanishat as well
as the latest scientific researches and results of experiments (CERN).
According to veda, “Exceedingly wise, exceedingly strong is the Designer.
He is Creator, Disposer, Epiphany supreme. Mortal Men rejoice that their votive
offerings are heeded there where they say “the One is, beyond the
Seven Seers. He is our Father” who begat us, he the Disposer who
knows all situations, every creature. It was He alone who gave to the Gods
their names; to Him come questioning all the other creatures. To Him the seers
of old offered their substance in sacrifice, as did also the multitude of
singers who fashioned this whole universe when first the spheres, both the
shadowy realm and the bright, were set in their places. That which the Waters
first received, beyond the heavens, beyond the earth, beyond both Gods and
demons-- say, what was that, the first primeval germ, when
all the assembled Gods, and they alone, were watching? He was the primal germ borne
by the Waters, wherein all the Gods were coalesced together; at the navel
of the Non-born the One and only is set, he upon whom depend all created beings.”
[Rk veda X, 82, 2 – 6].
“Know, then, that prakriti is maya, that which comes within the ambit of
time, space, and causality, and that the supreme Lord is the Creator of maya. The whole universe is filled with
transient phenomenal objects that are an iota, fraction, amsha,
parts of His being. By truly realizing Him who, though non-dual, dwells in
prakriti, both in its primary and in its secondary aspect, and in Whom, this
whole world comes together and dissolves- by truly realizing Him, Who is the
Lord, the bestower of blessings, the Adorable God, one attains the supreme
peace. He, the creator of the gods and the bestower of their powers, the
Support of the universe, Rudra, the omniscient, who at the beginning gave birth
to Hiranyagarbha- may He endow us with clear intellect! He who is the sovereign
of the gods, in whom the worlds find their support, who rules over all two-footed
and four-footed beings-let us serve that God, radiant and blissful, with an
oblation. By realizing Him who is subtler than the subtlest Who dwells in the
midst of the chaos, who is the Creator of all things and is endowed with many
forms, who is the non-dual Pervader of the universe and all good-by realizing
Him one attains the supreme peace.” [YajurVeda, Svet. upa., Part I, Chapter IV,
10 – 14]. [Ref. Raimundo Pannikkar: The Vedic Experience. Courtesy: Velayan

The
above mantra, along with the preceding one, eulogizes the powers and glory of
the Lord and explains the secret of creation (as revealed by the Lord in the Bhagavad-Gita here).
The verse: ahamAtmA guDAkesha.
. . | (along with the verses in vibhutiyoga Ch X) is enough to know
Him. He is the Self of all. He, the omniscient, omnipotent,
omnipresent, and the antaryamin sit in the heart and works
through the Mind. He is the One, above all the seven seers- the five senses and
the manas and buddhi (that He commands). It is His ‘Will’ that He creates
rather, ‘the One becomes many’ according to the Lord’s will, desire and
resolve- “ekohaM bahusyam. It is the creative power of the
Mind, His ‘citta’ that creates the primal germ, the ‘thought-particle’
(mind-worm)- the desire. Thus, the phenomenal, objective, transient,
perceivable, sensuous world is created of the powerful vibration of Mind, cittavrutti.
The Mind creates the world and the Mind is the world. And, man is Mind, its
moods and attitudes! It is Sri Hari chitta!
