The Gist of Vedanta

Vedanta is the gist of all knowledge. It is translated as philosophy in English and this term is inappropriate.  English language is derived from Latin. Philo sophia means love of words and as such the philosophers are just engaged in discussion (exchange of knowledge) and argument (fight due to ignorance). Thus, it is not 'philosophy', but 'darshana shastra'. Visualization (darshan) is involved in this. A true yogi who practices transcendental meditation can contemplate on any issue and have darshan, and get intutional knowledge. Thus both theory (Veda) and practice (yoga) are involved in our dashan shastra. However, it is unfortunate that people specialize only in Vedanta, Yoga, Sankhya and do not show much interest in nyaya , vaisheshika, and purva mimamsa. Complete knowledge is Vedanta. This holistic, totality will take us to pure state, highest level of prajnya where there is nothing- either 'existence' (sada) or 'non-existence' (asada). This is the param padam, seat of highest peace and bliss.
