Now, both spiritual scientists and the physical scientists have come to common understanding despite the fact that Spiritual science precedes the latter. The six branches of Indian philosophy, shad-darshana shastra do not agree on most of the issues concerning the origin of the universe. The Sankhyans differ from the Naiyayikas and the Mimamsakas, and the science of yoga, too, offers different opinion. Whatever be the views of different schools of thought, one thing is certain; something that is beyond thought and words governs the entire universe from beginning to the end. That something which cannot be ever explained in words, or even thought of, is simply called 'That' or 'tyat' (Samsk.). It is futile to talk about it since it simply remains unseen and unheard forever! However, great sages have been in search of it and have finally found it within their own self!
Now let's see how this 'something' called 'tyat' has expressed itself, manifests in many diverse forms and functions to constitute the universe.
First, It is quiet, silent, absolutely without any vibration or sound; it is calm and it is called quietude, bhuman. at this state. It vibrates, sends out waves, sound (nada and shabda) and comes to be recognized as nada brahmn and shabda brahmn. What was simply quiet, without any attributes (nirguna), came to be known by different names as saguna brahmn. This is the 'beginningless beginning' of the universe.
What emanates from the waves and vibrations at this primordial state is simply unbelievable! It is tremendous force, power of the elements that later becomes gross elemental bodies like the planets and satellites! These forces are innumerable to even cite and a few of them are: electricity (vidyut), magnetism (ayaskant), Light (jyoti), currents of different types, thoughts, ideas, images, dreams woven in complex patterns in mind, flashes of vision (ing?) etc. They are too subtle and invisible forces to ever understand by the human mind, let alone experience by mortals in ordinary state of mind. Only blessed yogis may get a glimpse of these, by divine providence and grace. Thus comes a long list of Forces (Shakti) called gods and goddesses with different names to identify them with distinct powers! Thus we have, irrespective of name and sex that we attribute, a large number, almost 330 crores of devatas. Brahmanda Purana goes on enumerating these names and their powers and it is mind-bogging!
We may just cite a few examples from pancharatra here as regards the first emanation of the super-powers such as Narayana, or para-vasudeva, Vishnu, Lakshmi, Sankarshana, Pradyumna, Aniruddha, manus, manava-manavas (pitrus) and manavas and all the jivar ashis as the product of manifest forms of Aniruddha. Even Gods manifest in different forms and names to indicate the powers they exercise. Of these, we have the Goddess lakshmi, Saraswati, Durga, and a host of other Shakti devatas. The powers that emanate from these Gods are jnyan, shakti, aishvarya, bala, virya and tejas. Then there appear the qualities depending on the amplitude, intensity, wavelength and the intensity or force of the waves. These are called in different ratio and proportion of tamas, rajas, and sattva.
Then, there is need for passage and freedom for movement and there comes the Space (akasha), The forces take their gross forms as gaseous, liquid and solid forms of matter, staring with elements such a air, water, fire, rocks, minerals, soil, and life forms from viruses and germs to elephants, whales in different sizes and monkeys to the humans in mental development (faculties).
Thus, the creation in brief, starts with gods and the learned sages to the many and varied life-forms seen on earth. It is mysterious to observe how all these are supported one single force or power called chetana, chit-shakti, chaitanya, prana or life-force. But for this prana no living creatures ever exist and but for chaitanya, nothing vibrates here. hence the statement praising the Lord: Oh, God, nothing moves without your will. "na trunamapi chalkati tena vina"
