What is Meditation? How to meditate and what is the right method?
What do we understand when the Lord says, "Meditate on Me", contemplate on the Self, or meditate on brahmn?
All these mean one thing only and that is "be consciously aware" of what you are doing. The self here is the 'Atman' and 'Atman is brahmn', and Shree Krishna says, "I am nirakara parabrahmn". the term 'brahmn' is starting with 'b' lower case (for 'brahm' and not the cap 'B' since B is 'bha' in Samsk.). There are two other terms that need to be used carefully. 'Bhrama' is disillusionment, Brahma used in purana/ mythology is the chaturmukha brahma (Shabda brahma), the creative power, srushti shakti- a 'Force' of the 'Energy' of 'brahmn'.
Now, meditate on brahmn means contemplate on the primordial state of dynamic silence.
When one is established in this state of  the Absolute (mahattanta shanta) the person attains to brahmn, a state of total silence with minimum metabolism and tranquil mind. This is the ultimate one can expect in this mundane life- busy with all and sundry, worried, full of tension, anxiety, high blood pressure and prone to serious illness and strokes or heart attacks. All the money in the world will not help in such cases! So take to  yoga, pranayama, contemplate on brahmn for a minimum of 40 mins. twice a day- once in the early morning and then again in the late evening. Be Happy, joyful and enjoy the bliss of life This meditation technique is for students and householders, busy people who are under enormous stress in their daily life. Pranayama (Breath-control techniques) with asanas and mudras are advocated in this type of meditation. A Yoga teacher shall guide the beginners. Guidance is a must for all
However, there is  different meditation technique more powerful for serious seekers after sixty-five years of age. This aspect of meditation for 'attainment to the state of brahmn' will be discussed later. In the strict spiritual sense, yoga is union with God. The spiritual seeker should withdraw his senses, mind, buddhi and ahankar from their out-going attitude and return to the source at pure consciousness, Atman.
