Adhikar or Prerequisites for study and practice of Srividya
Just as any other science requires certain prior qualifications and training like the CAT / CET/ Internship/ apprenticeship this higher science - the 'para vidya' of highly spiritual nature, too demands that the beginners should have passed/ completed certain elementary yoga exercises- pranayama, Gayatree japa of stipulated numbers, mudras and anganyasas, etc under a qualified Guru. Nothing can be attained without a Guru. As we all know we cannot enter an Engineering or Medical College without passing the examinations prescribed, that too with very high marks/Grades. So Shree Vidya as a threefold path (taryinyas) of yantra (designs and machinations), mantra and tantra (techniques), need very rigorous training in theory and practicals. The prescribed Text Books are: Soundaryalahari, Shree Lalitasahasranama, Durga saptashati, Sharada Chatushyati, Shree sukta, Devi sukta, Bhu sukta, Purusha sukta, etc of Rk Veda, certain homas such as Ganahoma, et,
Thus it is not very easy to directly enter the precincts of Devi who is seated in the sanctum sanctorum (garbhagruha) that eeds seven doors to be crosses. These seven doors are extremely strong and open backward and forward often pushing the persons back to where they are! These seven doors are:1. the senses, 2. mind, 3. buddhi, 4,ahankar, 5. cittavrutti, 6. prajnya and 7. Atmashuddhi, Only when a person is pure in thoughts, words, actions and all his deed devi will permit the darshan. So we have to prepare for the darshan with all ablusions, cleansing ourselves. We remember we had to remove our dress to go to our grannies or mother doing puja or preparing naivedya for puja!
More details on methods of worship to follow.....
